Unit 8: FMP - Final Major Project
FMP is the unit that you can do anything in. Weather or not that you learn about what your final product of this unit to be and look like, it doesn't matter, the project is about your skills in what you want your product to be. For example, the final major project is supposed to represent how far you have come since introduction at the beginning of the year when we filmed and edited the dinner scene from American Beauty. You don't have to have learnt about it in the last few months, so you can do things that you will learn next year like documentary's or things like you have learned about, like music videos, but it would be better to challenge yourself by doing something different rather that doing the things that you already done before.
Ideas for FMP
The top 3 ideas are my main ideas, I was just trying to think of lots of ideas for FMP so I would have lots to chose from.
Week 1
Me and Emily had no idea what to do for FMP, so we started to think of ideas separately, but when it got to Tuesday we both were thinking how we could do FMP without working with someone who could help point out things that you missed. so we started thinking of ideas in the LRC and then Emily said "What about a clown... what about a sad clown?" to be honest, I had my droughts about that idea from when she said "clown" but to be nice I went along with it. Then I came up with the idea that the clown could be looking for friends and every time he asked someone if they wanted to be his friend, they would look at him strangely and walk away. We were going to use flowers as symbolises for every someone walked away from him. But when he has the last flower he walks up behind someone watering there plants and they would chuck water on them accidently, ruining his makeup. Then he would drop the flower and sulk by the steps and the person who chucked water on him would pick up the flower and give it back to him, as if they where becoming friends. The whole thing we thought would be a silent vintage move, which Emily really liked the idea, but when it came to Thursday, she didn't and she said that it had been done way to many times. So then she started to say about a righter on a beach, which I thought didn't really go very far in terms of good ideas. Then I started to right on piece of paper and came up with the idea that a 50's girl is reading a book and is so engrossed in it that she haven't realised that when she stepped out of her house she has travelled to 2022. Emily loved the idea and she started to say that what if she was reading a book from the 50s about the future. Then Emily said that a car horn would beep and she would look up and start hyperventilating because she doesn't recognise where she is, but then she would wake up in her bad, in the 50s again. Then I said "After she wakes up and has the weird dream, she when she opens the door, she sees that it really is in the future, but she doesn’t know that at the time. She than walks past her nabers, But doesn’t recognize them, then she sees modern cars and modern cloths and then someone comes up to her and says, “have you heard the news? the world is going to end.” then she would say; “it is?” then that person would show she the phone with the news on it and she would say; “What the delve is that?” then that person would say “it’s a phone.” then runs back home, closes the door and says, “Ok I’m never going out side again.” but Emily didn't like the idea that she wakes up again, but I taught the first part would be a bit short. Anyway, we thought for the 50s house, it could be in black and white and could replicate the 50s style TV, but when she walks outside it would be in collar to show the progression of 2022 TV. I will think more about this over the weekend because it would be quite difficult to find a 50s style kitchen and I also don't like the fact that she doesn't interact with anyone in this idea.

Slider test shoot

Evaluation
For this me, Emily, Ellie and Courtney when on a shoot with a slider, which is a low budget version of a track and dolly. We went around the college with the slider shooting each other in different camera movements. Nothing maigre bad happened, like braking kit and not having the right kit, but we did get cold when we where shooting outside. We learnt how to set up the slider and we learnt how to get good footage with the slider by putting something in the way so you can see that the camera is moving. There was a problem with making the slider straight, as it kept slanting off to the side and we had to had onto the feet of the tripod because if we didn't it would have toppled over.
Lighting test shoot
BTS
Evaluation
For this me, Emily, Ellie and Courtney when in the studio and spent 1 hours and 30 minutes with David who showed us various lighting techniques, some of which we already knew, a few things that he showed us were, red and blue flashing lights, like police lights, how to light an interview with two people and using disco lights. I was responsible for taking BTS, so I didn’t go in front of the camera. Everyone else did, but I didn’t want to. We ran into lunch, and we could have run over even more if Blue didn’t come in and said we could go eat.
Week 2
Over the weekend I thought about the idea and I came up with the idea that the main character who is in the 50s, reads a book in a field and when she looks up, she is in 2022. There is more to the idea that I had but that was the main thing that would happen. When I told Emily my idea, she really liked and we decided to do it for FMP, but not before I had to sway Emily towards doing my idea. Anyway, we tried to tell blue our idea and as usual she went around the other side first and came to us last at the very end of the lesson and only spent 5 minuets on us, where as spending about 30 minuets on everyone else. Then Me and Emily started to discuss the idea and we decided to film in Padstow and use Emily's friends as actors. We did have a proper conversation with Cheryl about our idea and she thinks its good. I got a lot of things dose this week, I finished the deconstructions and I started the shot list in Guides because I was bored. Me, Emily, Courtney and Ellie did a slider shoot together which went well, we also did a lighting test shoot, which was the most boring and awkward 1 hour and 30 minuets ever. He told us things that we already knew. The teacher kept saying we have lots of time, time that felt like an eternity. Thank God Blue came in to rescue us because we would have missed our lunch. We were also going to Buy a book from the 50s about the future, but I ended up printing off a front cover of a book from the 50s and sellotapeing it to a think book from my cupboard.

Feedback
The feedback and concerns that where raised by Blue who watched our pitch, where the fact that we didn't know our story line, even though we did, we just didn't know how to explain it to her in a short sentence. She also said to focus on feminism, which was something that we didn't really want to do, but we knew that we where going to end up writing about in our script. During in the pitch, Emily took over for most of it, even when she passed it over to me, she took over. However I did get to explain what my other ideas where and I did explain what my deconstructions where. Those where the only 2 things that Emily fully gave me control and let me speak.

Week 3
Adapting the idea - Today we had a discussion with our lecturer - blue turner, she had told us to consider how short films, can create emotional reposes in viewers and we began to think about the idea of a feminist film, to which we didn't really like the idea of because we were already so engaged with a different concept "time travel" during this conversation. We referenced frequently to the idea of a house and setting a house for the 50s part of the film to which at first we were completely against, but now I realise that we some content away from the journey of her to the time travelling, we need context, but how could a house provide context. Emily, along with my support and contribution had came up with the idea of setting the film in the house beginning the film where we see the girl as a 10 year old on her birthday she goes to the dining room to meet her grandfather for breakfast where he mentions her parents death and the fact that the mother had left her present for her she says "is it a Marilyn book" because she idolizes those significant women 50s figures, but he laughs and says no, she proceeds to open the present to find a book about time travel, the grandfather would say; "your mother was always obsessed about the idea of the future" then cuts to a image of the mum then she goes to bed, then in graphics it says 6 years later, its a summer morning she wakes up from her bed to see a picture of her boyfriend on her desk , she begins to get ready in her dress, style her hair and put on her makeup the camera shows a shot of a picture of Marilyn on her desk to how her idolizing and obsession with her to which many young women can agree with. She then shouts to her grandfather, have you seen my jewellery box, frantically she then opens her chestier draws to find the time travel book she opens it to revel her singing her name in the book at the age of 10 she then gets her bags ready for her picnic with her boyfriend and begins walking she goes to the spot on the field time passes eventually she gives up and falls back to lie on the field to see that her book is near her head she then picks up sits up and begins reading the time travel story then starts hear. so as you can see wave added some context and I do like this idea, because it applies some emotion, we hear about the girls deceased parents, it applies the idea of forgotten childhood gifts that can affect us when were older and so on. On the Wednesday dad took me to Padstow where Emily lives and we did a test shoot that took all day because Blue told us to shoot where we where actually going to shoot, so we did. Anyway, on the day we had to drive to the college to pick up my SD card because I forgot it, but it wasn't a problem because we were going past Bodmin anyway. We got some really good shots with the gimble, but when we went for lunch, we realised that we weren't given a charger for the smaller camera, this meant that we couldn't use the gimble and had to use the 80d instead. It was an extremely long day of walking and carrying kit around Padstow and when I got home, I couldn't feel my feet and my back and shoulders where hurting. It was a very nice day but it did get really cold in the middle of the day which was quite annoying. On Thursday me and Emily did the Pitch together on Emily's PowerPoint. Emily did most of the talking, she was very prefeshinal. I don't think Blue really gets our idea and she doesn't think we know what we want to do even though we do. At the end she did tell us a really good idea, that we could do, but the idea that we have at the moment is ours and the idea that she told us, had already been done before.

We will try to replicate the 50s makeup, hair stye and dresses as best we can.

Week 4
This week I was able to finish all the Pre-production I needed to finish. Saying this I do need to change some things as Emily has read it and has changed some of it, also Emily hasn't finished her pre-production yet as she was doing her deconstructions that took all week. also did very short alternative endings, because both of us cant decide on how to end it. because Emily was doing her deconstructions, when i asked her to look at the script, she wasn't putting her full time into reading it, this means that i will have to get her to have another look at it next week, so we both know what we are doing for the production.
Adapting the idea - Emily has started her treatment and when she got to the concept part of the treatment, we discussed it and changed the idea to the fact that Grace starts off with her parents and talks to them about the future, when her dad stops her and make a sexist comment towards her about not reading such, "Non-predictive things and become a lady," as he puts it. Her mum would then start to talk to her about Sunday school and say to her about bringing the bible with her on her walk. The next scene, she would chose between the two book and bring her futuristic book instead of her bible. When she see's her friends, they are not nice, they are actually really mean and quite stupid, they are a representation on what Grace is supposed to be. the rest of the idea is the same and continues like it did previously.

Production schedule 4
Week 5
This week I was able to finish all the Pre-production I needed to finish again. On Monday me and Emily went through and I did the script whilst she did the story bored from scratch because Blue thought it would be better to change the whole story to make it more about sexism. On Tuesday and Wednesday we finished some more pre-production paperwork. Then on Thursday, we went to a cloths shop in Truro to barrow some cloths for the 50s part of the short film. The problem was that we could only take them out for 2 days, so we have to come back on Saturday next week, so we can film the girls with the cloths on Saturday and Sunday and Emily will take them back on Monday. also on Friday, Emily did a lot of pre-production, that I put on my WIX, it was great. Next week, we need to finish absolutely everything before we start to do rehearsals on Thursday and Friday and start filming on Saturday and all the way through the half term.
Script
This is the script after blue has edited it once again.
Rehearsals - BTS
Rehearsals - BTS
Rehearsals
On Thursday, I got on the bus that took me to Bodmin. From there I then walked down to dads house, who lives close to the college. He then took me to Emily's house in Padstow. When Lauren later got to Emily's, we then walked around with a camera and the script and showed her basically what was going to happen and what she would say and do at the location. We only had Lauren for today as she was the only one of our cast that were free today, but that was fine because she is our main character. We didn't go in order of the script, but first we went to; the old street, then the country roads, then the field, which is all really close together. then we went to the benches where we rehearsed some lines, with me playing the other person so Lauren had someone to act with. When we finished there we all went back to Emily's house and had lunch. After that we then went to the park, but we couldn't film anything there because children were playing around it, so we went in the car park and did some filming there. Then we went to the graphite tunnel, rehearsed lines and showed Lauren what to do there. This time Emily filed in for Honey, who is playing the depressed person and I filmed. After that we walked down to the modern streets and filmed a little bit down there. We finished a bit early because we couldn't film up at Emily's granddad's house for what ever reason, so we rehearsed lines at Emily's house, then watched Netflix until my dad came and picked me up. he took me to Bodmin, where i got the bus back home. It was very windy and a mix between warm and cold today, which made it quite difficult to film. Hopefully, when we film the weather would be nicer and not so windy. Tomorrow, we can start the actual filming as, I am picking the gimble up from college from James at 1, then Emily's dad is going to pick me up and on the way pick Lauren up, so she can put makeup on and we can film the parts in the old street, the country roads and the field. Another thing that may be a problem is that Lauren died her hair pink at the front, but then I said to Emily, that the protagonist dose act different from all the other women, so maybe she can have died hair, after all apparently people did start dyeing there hair in the as far back as the Paleolithic Period.
Day 1 - BTS
Today I was supposed to stay at college until 11:00 and then James would give me the gimble and I would go to Padstow. But yesterday, James changed his mind to 1:00, then he changed it to 1:30. I had already told Emily yesterday, that I should come in at 9:00 and film the dinner scene and the bedroom scene and then rap at 4 and then I could get the gimble when I come into Bodmin. But Emily said no because she had complete confidence in James giving it to us when he said he would. Anyway, I waited until 2:10 until he showed up with the gimble, but I had to walk to the tecnitions store because I thought we were waiting for him in the car park. Anyway, we got to Emily's at 3:00 and Emily had already done Laurens hair and makeup which looked really good. Then we found out that James used all the battery's that powers the gimble, so we couldn't do the gimble stuff that we needed to do. This meant that we had the dinner scene. I mean if we did that before, then we could have got a lot more done. Anyway, we changed Laurens hair and costume for the dinner scene and got Emily's mum ready as well, we filmed the whole dinner scene with everyone in the room, even though Emily's mum wanted to spend as little time as she possibly could with Emily's dad. It took about an hour and a half, it could have taken less time if Emily's dad actually said the actual line, but we ended up wrapping at 6:00 with him saying the right line but with him not in the shot. Tomorrow I need to get the dresses in Truro and we are going to film the bench scene with Honey, Emily's oldest brother and Lauren.
Day 2 - BTS
Today I went and got the dresses at Truro at 12:00, then I went to Emily's and got there at 2:00 she hadn't quite finished work yet but she finished it shortly after I got there. We then waited for Lauren to show up who came shortly after Emily got home. I found out that Honey wasn't coming in today, so I we tried to get the gimble to work and it did as Emily charged both battery's last night. We ended up filming the old street, country road and field scene, wrapping at 6:00 again. In the old street scene, there was a bunch of people looking out the window of there house, just beside the road that 'Grace' was walking down. In the field, Emily's SD card ran out of storage, so I had to put mine in it and it took a while for the gimble to be level again, which really annoyed Emily. Tomorrow, we are filming the Bench scene with Honey, Emily's brother and Lauren, but if she isn't in Tomorrow, then we will film the bedroom scene and rap at 5:00 because its a short scene.
Day 3 - BTS
Today we filmed the bedroom scene with Lauren, which didn't take long because it was a very small scene. We did have to set design first which didn't take long because Emily's Grandad has really good old things, that look as if they are from the 50s. We had an hour to spare in which we disgust what to do tomorrow and we decided on doing nothing and having a break so Emily can go to Truro and ask for a few more days to have the dresses, apparently we aren't doing anything Tuesday either because Lauren is busy on Tuesday, but Honey isn't, which is annoying because Emily said we cant do it without Lauren as she is the main character. I asked Emily over Text if we could do Audio on Tuesday, but she hasn't answered yet, even though she's seen it, which is just annoying.
Week 6
This week we were told that we couldn't have a gimble, because there wasn't any left in the store. This mean that we had to try and figure something else out. we didn't want to buy one or get it from WEX, so we considered static shots thought the short film. This was a problem because we realised that we needed some moving shots, so then Chris suggested using a phone gimble, we didn't really want to use a phone gimble because it is not as good of quality as using a camera. But then Blue talked to James who has a gimble and he said we could barrow it for the first week of the Easter holidays, which is fine because we only need about 5 days to film it anyway. The second week we will do audio. Wednesday we got all the equipment that we needed from the store and put it my dad car, who drove off after we did that. Thursday I got my dad to drive me to Padstow from Bodmin, so we could film rehearsals with only one of the cast, Lauren, who is playing the lead role in our short film so she knows what she's doing on the day of filming. Friday we got the gimble, but since it wasn't working, we did the dinner scene. On Saturday, I picked up the dresses, but found out that Honey wasn't coming, however we got the gimble to work and we ended up filming the old street, country roads and field scene with the gimble. On Sunday, we filmed the bedroom scene with Lauren, which took very little time particularly because she didn't have to do her hair and makeup as she was getting ready in her room, which was one of Emily's grandad's rooms.
Production schedule 5
Day 4 - BTS
Today I had to get the gimble back from James at 16:00 in the Callywith carpark, this time he was on time and I wasn't waiting that long for him. I then I waited for Emily's mum to pick me up from Callywith, which took about 40 minuets. When she came, Emily started Lauren and Honey's makeup. When I got there, we spent 4 hours doing the scene in the graphite tunnel and we tried to get the gimble to work, but again, James used up all the batteries and we couldn't get it to work, so we have to do a certain take another day with the gimble working. The scene went quite well and we wrapped at 8:00. Both Honey and Lauren where very good at remembering there lines and acting the way we told them to act. There was one problem that we had with the cars above, we may have to ADR there lines because the cars were quite loud. Tomorrow, we could have filmed 2 scenes in one day, if everyone came really early in the morning, but Emily's work were really determined to get her in to work, even though I kept telling her not to go, she still went.
Pointless shoot - BTS
As we were picking up Lauren and Honey on Thursday, Emily got a text from Honey saying that she couldn't make it, which just messed up our whole day, what also messed us up was the fact that we lost the screw on the gimble, so we didn't get much done. I was going to film an interview with my grandad on Tuesday, but Emily said that Honey was only free on Tuesday, but we ended up not filming anything because Lauren wasn't free, so I could have filmed him then. Then I changed the date to this Friday and even though I know that we are never going to film anything today, she wouldn't let me have the kit because Emily has faith in her friends, so now I changed it to Monday when James is using the gimble and I'm sticking to that date with the knowledge that both Lauren and Honey are free on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Week 7
This week, we got back the gimble and we couldn't use it in the graphite tunnel, when we filmed in there, because James used up the batteries again. But we filmed the graphite scene on Wednesday, with Lauren and Honey. As we were picking up Lauren and Honey on Thursday, Emily got a text from Honey saying that she couldn't make it, which just messed up our whole day, what also messed us up was the fact that we lost the screw on the gimble, so we didn't get much done. We also didn't film Friday, Saturday or Sunday so, Sunday I seized the opportunity to film an interview with my grandad for Documentary next year. Next week, all the people we need is defiantly free on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday all day, so I bet we could finish on Wednesday and finally start audio.
Treatment
Production schedule 6
This Treatment is just showing when it was completed, you don't need to read it twice.
Day 5 - BTS
Today, dad brought over some bin bags for our shot that I thought we where going to do today, but turns out Lauren couldn't make it, so we did Audio instead. Tomorrow, we really have to crack on because we cant keep doing this all weekend because no one is free on Thursday onwards.
Day 6 - BTS
Today, Lauren got to Emily's at 12:00 and we put makeup on her and we did not mess around today because we filmed 4 scenes. First we filmed the park scene, then we went back to Emily's and got 4 bin bags and carried them to the graphite tunnel, where we filmed a short scene, the parts that we didn't film when we filmed it with Honey last week. I was in this scene as a background character. Then we brought back the bin bags and then we went to the modern streets and filmed a scene with Emily's mum. Then we went to the park, where it finally had no little kids in it, so we filmed the park scene with Emily as one of the actors playing a part that her brother was going to play, but we couldn't wait any longer for people to show up, so Emily stepped in as her brother was working and we needed to rap tomorrow because from Thursday onwards everyone is not free.
Day 7 - BTS
That's a rap!!!!! today we finally finished filming, Emily's dad pick up Lauren at 2 and we got to Emily's and we got the gimble to work, so we filmed a take with the gimble working in the graphite scene, then we walked over to the modern street and we tried to get the gimble to work, but it suddenly decided to stop working, but by this point we had already done the action that Emily was trying to do yesterday with the camera, so we we back to Emily's stuck everything on charge and waited for Honey to show up. We waited for 3 hours. We then text her and asked her where she was and she said, she was sick in the morning and couldn't do it today, this made everyone really angry. I said Emily should just do it, but Emily wasn't having it, we all walked over to Emily's dad's house and got him to drive us to Honey's house. When we got there, I knocked on the door a few times and it took a few minuets, but her mm came to the door and said straight away that she couldn't do it today. We where all so annoyed because she basically done this all half term, we went back and despite the fact that she really didn't want to do it, Emily got dressed really quickly and we went off because we only had 1 hour and 30 minuets before the sun went down. When we got there we realised that we didn't have an SD card, so we got Emily's mum to drive over the bag and when we got it, the SD card wasn't there. Then we walked back to Emily's and got the SD card and all the other things that we needed, then got in Emily's mum's car and she drove us to the benches, where we ran over to the bench we where going to use, then we really quickly did the scene, because by this point we only had an hour before the sun came down. We raped at 20:20 and walked back just before it got really dark. Anyway we are finally finished. YAY!!!
Costumes/ hair

Week 8
This week, we were able to do Audio on Monday. Then we filmed 4 scenes on Tuesday, we filmed the car park location, we filmed the scene with bins out side of the graphite tunnel, I played a character in this scene, even though we said we were going to stay out of our film. We filmed the scene in the modern streets with Emily's mum. Then when everyone had finally got out of the park, we did the park scene, with Emily playing the person afraid of Covid-19, because we couldn't wait for people to be free, we needed to get it filmed before we went back to college. Then on Wednesday we eventually got the park scene finished with Emily playing Grace's friend. We now finished EVERYTHING!!!! all we need to do now is edit it.

Doing audio - BTS
Today I went to Padstow and we did audio. We first did the stuff in the house and then we went outside, where we had the really good idea to bring our coats, not knowing how hot we would be. Anyway, the sounds that we recorded in the house, we did looking at the videos of our rough cut that we uploaded and published onto WIX yesterday on Emily's computer, so we could get it in time to the video we we put it on the timeline in premier pro. When we recorded audio outside, Emily took a video of both of our rough cuts, so we wouldn't have to take her computer. everything was going smoothly, until we got to the benches. That was when I started to hiccup and it became difficult to get the sound that we wanted because I would hiccup in the middle of it. Emily's solution was to walk far enough away, so you couldn't hear me. We will have to find out if that worked because she didn't put the headphones on to check.
Week 9
This week both me and Emily finished our rough cuts in premier pro. We also started our evaluations when we where in the LRC because the computers with Premier pro in there haven't been updated where as the ones in the classroom have. Friday, we then did the audio based off the rough cuts that we uploaded to YouTube, then uploaded to WIX and published.

This week I finished editing the short film edit and uploaded it to WIX, I have also finished my evaluation up to the feedback section, this is because next week, we will be screening everyone's edit. Another thing that I did this week was make an edit for the rehearsals that we filmed on Thursday, the last day before the half term. I also uploaded both my and Emily's consent forms onto WIX which we made everyone who acted sign over the half term. This included me and Emily's consent forms, even though I was on camera for about 5 seconds. I was going to upload the rest of the cast, but Emily seems to keep pushing doing them back, even though they would only take about 5 minuets.

This week we screened our year and the second years final major projects. me and Emily both screened our edit on Monday, Emily went first and we stayed in the room, when my edit was playing the later in the day, me and Emily both hid in the toilets because the video was almost 11 minuets long. In between other people playing there videos and when we didn't have a lesson, I carried on doing the Feedback part of the evaluation and I carried on righting my research report. I edited a trailer for my short film and uploaded it to WIX on Tuesday, I also carried on editing the bloopers in the LRC on the same day. Wednesday I finally finished the research report and uploaded it to WIX after Cheryl had a look at it. Thursday, I uploaded an updated version of my short film, on the same day me and Emily did ADR in the stair way, using the echo as a representation of the echo in the tunnel. I uploaded a separate version of that and called it our short film, ADRed by me and Emily, I also uploaded an updated print screens PDF and production schedule PDF to WIX. Next week I will not have much to do, I will probably only have to continue editing the bloopers and upload the video to YouTube.

Week 13
This was the week that I finished everything off, I know I said that I finished the evaluation off last week, but Emily reminded me of some things and helped me to add some things to my evaluation. I also made a separate PDF document for the feedback that we where given, "because it looks neater." I was ill on Wednesday, so I dint get anything accomplished on that day. However, I did finish uploading the rest of the consent forms on Thursday that we both needed to put on WIX for all the actors to show that they consented to being filmed. I also finished edited 8 videos on premier pro where I stuck all the footage onto a video, it was really long, so I made the speed 200%, but it was still really long, so I had to make lots of videos, so I could put them on YouTube. Emily did the same with the audio, but because it was so long, she cut them down. I also moved some things to the pre-pro section that Blue told me to do, but because I did everything in order, I duplicated the things I moved and wrote things underneath them to explain that I finished it then and not to read it because they are exactly the same. After that, I ran out of things to do, so Emily got me to edit a video of all the footage and audio that we got from YouTube. It was about 10 hours long, but I spent a really long time cutting it down to 13 minuets, then exporting it and putting it onto YouTube. Nothing to do next week because it is half term and we have finished this unit.
