Contingency plan

As a group we are producing a TV campaign for world mental health day 2021. - These where our ideas:

Option 1. Talking heads, talking to camera, no activity, with same background.
Option 2. Talking heads, talking to a camera, no activity, with different background.
Option 3. Student is in different locations, taking parts in different activity's and they turn to the camera to say there lines.

We chose option 2 - its the most realistic within the timeframe, but more interesting than using the same background.

Behind The Scenes

What went wrong

Luckily we had Blue to help us with the filming, lighting and audio which meant that nothing manger like losing the audio happened to us. We did however had to re-shot a scene, because we changed one of the settings for the second scene that we filmed.

What I did

When we were in the canteen, I set up the camera. When we were in the classroom I set up the lighting I also set up the lighting in the library. Everywhere I went I took lots of BTS pictures.

What I learned

I now know how to add graphics when editing. I also now know how to use black/ white dissolving and put a black background on.

What went wrong

Intro pictures - For the intro pictures I had to take about 170 pictures of plastic/ litter/ rubbish lying around. This was for whatever reason, really difficult to find litter lying around on the days that I was taking pictures of litter. This meant that I had to take some of the intro pictures from the internet. It was not only difficult to find litter, but it was also really difficult to fit all the pictures on to the song at the right beet, which explains why some pictures may seem to be out of beet with the song. You might not have noticed, but if you concentrate hard enough, you might notice it. As the song continued, it got easer to fit the pictures to the song at the right time as I got the hang of it.

Interview - For the interview I was going to interview Westcountry rivers trust about organising litter picks, but when I told Sarah from my guides about it, she said that she organises beach cleans for Suez, which saved me some time Emailing Westcountry rivers trust. When it came to the actual interview, I asked Sarah if I could film it in her office and she said no, so my contingency plan was to film it in the cloak room of guides. To do this I had to ask the guide leader Rose about shooting the interview in the cloak room and she said yes as long as I didn't get any of the Guides or Rangers in it without making them sign a consent form for filming. I said that's fine because I am only filming Sarah and hopefully none of the little guides wont interfere with the interview. When it came to actually filming it in the cloak room, I forgot the clip that clips the camera to the tripod, so I balanced the camera as best I could. I was able to film it in one take as Sarah was very professional. I used a lave mic instead of the camera mic when it came to the edit as I didn't realise how echoy it was in the cloak room. In the cloak room there was a Covid poster in the background of Sarah, you can see in the final edit, I didn't take it down because I thought you would be able to see the blue tac in the background, but its ok, because I only used a small piece of the film and put her voice over the footage I shot of the Beach clean. When it came to the Guides, they walked right past the equipment and didn't ask anything, which was weird because they are usually a very nosey bunch.

Beach clean - This was the most difficult thing to organise, first I asked if Sarah had a beach clean organised with such short notice. She said no, so we had to ask the Rangers if they would be willing to be filmed and are able to do a beach clean in the next 3 weeks. Each day that I mentioned, the rangers said that they were busy working or doing other things. Then another leader found a beach clean that was happening on the 5th of December and it was at Whitsand Bay which is really close to me. So I emailed the person who organised it and he said that it was fine but I would need to get peoples signatures so I would be able to get consent to film them and I explained that I already knew this and had some Consent forms ready. On the day, we had a job trying to find the beach, then when we found where we had to be, we waited for an hour for them to show up, but they didn't, so we decided to go down to try to get some footage with just the two people I was waiting with. When we got down there, all the people attending the beach clean were already down there even though we didn't see them go down. I ended up filming a bit of them until 10 minuets later when they said they had to go. When I was filming them, they kept asking me what the footage was for and because I was trying to be polite, I had to tern my camera of to talk to them. When we went back up the massive hill, I was fairly sure that I didn't get enough footage, so on the way back the person I was with who took me to the beach clean, went to 2 other beaches to get close ups of some of the plastic. Thank god she did that because I just had enough footage when it came to editing.
