Unit 5: Audio

Deconstruction

Deconstruction

Deconstruction

Testing audio: 'To be or not to be? That is the question.'

What went wrong

For this shoot we were able to get all the audio, apart from the wireless go. Our group did do it, but we must have pressed the off button when it was already recording, because me and Chris tried to find it, but we only found him talking into the mike.

We did re-do the Tx650, Zoom HS with shot gun and the zoom without shot gun audio on Wednesday because we weren't given the Tx650 on Tuesday and both the Zoom with and without shot gun where too confusing to decipher because we didn't say where we where and what we where using.

When we started with the 80D video mike we had to do it again because we forgot to turn it on, but it was ok, because we noticed before it was too late.

Also, when we did the zoom without shotgun, I think we didn't turn it on, which meant that it was really quiet. But that dose link in to what the quote that we are saying, 'To be or not to be?' isn't the question we should be asking. The real question should be: 'To be or not? Can you hear me?'

Behind The Scenes

This is Cortney's because mine ended up not exporting.

Sorry there isn't any bloopers, there was blooper (About 50 bloopers) when we first did it, but they somehow got lost. The second time we did it, we where too depressed about our audio going missing that we didn't get any bloopers.

What went wrong

When me, Emily and Ellie did the audio on Thursday, we first had to go in the staff room. This wasn't ideal because there was microwaves and people talking almost constantly. The 10 minuets without any noises in the background, we laughed every time Emily got to the second page.

Because there was so many background noises in there, we then went into an empty classroom and we were able to get half way through the book until a class came in. Then it was our brake, so Ellie disappeared to leave me and Emily in the conversation room to get 90% of the audio book finished. we were going to finish the rest of it on Monday

When Monday came along, Emily caught Covid, which meant that she couldn't come in. Since she was the one with the SD card full of footage, it meant that we couldn't record the rest of the sounds. Chris told us if we couldn't get the footage by Tuesday then we should do it again. Me and Ellie, who was the only two people in our 5 person group, where texting and calling Emily until she called me and we eventually came to the decision that her dad will drop in the SD card on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Emily's dad did drop the card it, the only problem was THERE WAS NO FOOTAGE ON THE CARD! this meant that we had to re-record everything, so Chris told Emily on my phone to record the narration footage on her phone and send it to us on Email. Then me, Ellie and Cortney went to the conversation room to record mis Armitage parts that where played by me. As soon as we finished, we put it onto Cortney's computer so we would lose it again.

When it came to editing, the mp3 converter refused to convert the 10 hour videos that we chose, which meant that I had to such YouTube for a video under 6 hours and I ended up finding a 3 hour video. Also, some of the videos that Emily chose for the sound affects weren't very good, so I had to look for better ones on YouTube as I was editing. Also, after half term all I need to do now is put the pictures on.

After the half term I came back to find that my finished without pictures edit of mis Armitage on wheels had disappeared. I did save it I swear! Thank god Blue was there, otherwise I would have had to do it again. I did however had to get some more sounds from YouTube because some of them deleted which was really annoying. It deleted again when Chris told me to download the same sound effects and put them onto Premier. I was able to get the background music, but all the other sound effects I got from YouTube deleted, then when I tried to export it because I gave up trying to put the sound effects on there, it wouldn't let me. I ended up using Cortney's.

I hope you enjoyed it, this was very frustrating.

I got bored over the half term and decided to do a sound plan for the other 2 Mis Armitage books written by Quinten Blake.

What went wrong

When we did the Foley for all the sounds that Blue does, it went fine. We used Blues actual car for some of the car sounds. When it came to the ADR, we were going to go in the room next door, but every time the timetable said the room was free, another teacher snatched it. We finally got the room when another group decided not to show up, which meant we snatched it off them. When it came to actually editing, my premier pro decided to delete some of the footsteps. After a while I got annoyed and just decided to export the video.

What went wrong

When it came to filming we didn't have long to film it, not only that, but we had a really bad mic, yes it sounded good in the edit, but recording it was annoying because at 8 it would be really quiet, at 10 it would be loud, but you could hear wind, which made it difficult to edit.

Filming, Cortney and Ellie didn't know what to do because I was the person who did a scrip and a shot list. I did send it to them, but I don't think they read it because they had so much work to do. This meant that for every shot, they asked me where to go because they didn't read it.

For the over the shoulder shot, we used about 8 books and Ellie's phone to see either me or Emily. We did do one take without either Ellie or Cortney in the over the shoulder shot of me, when half way through acting, Cortney realised and decided to sit at the end to make the people in the classroom seem like they are actually in there doing a test.

This one was the one we screened. This one was 2 minuets exactly, mine was slightly longer because Chris had an issue with the continuity with my head in different takes.
